Hi, my name is Griffin Crafts.
I’m a product designer living in San Francisco.
My specialty is solving complex problems for professionals.

Most recently, I was a Senior Product Designer at Sirona Medical, where I represented the design team in developing new AI and innovation initiatives. Working closely with radiologists, computer vision scientists, and natural language processing scientists, we set out to change how radiologists work without getting in their way.

My work has appeared in many places online including The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC, Upworthy, and The Atlantic for clients including Google, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the ACLU, 350.org, and the Union of Concerned Scientists.

I am currently looking for new opportunities. Case studies are coming soon!

Recent Experience

Sirona Medical

Senior Product Designer
Product Designer
2020 – 2022

As Product Designer and Senior Product Designer, I joined as the company’s second designer and helped grow the design team to four people, onboarded new hires, assisted in the expansion and refinement of our design system, designed core UX patterns, and planned product strategy and roadmaps across multiple functional groups.

Within Sirona, I represented design in its AI and innovation group, which sought to leverage the unique capabilities offered by this groundbreaking technical platform. I specifically focused on cross-window workflows, multimodal interactions, and AI-enhanced features that sought to assist radiologists, not replace them. This was achieved through deep collaboration directly with radiologists, giving them tools that were truly innovative while being in harmony with their existing workflows.

Cloud City Development

Design Director
Product Designer
2015-2019

As Product Designer and Design Director, I had the opportunity to help dozens of organizations on a variety of projects in an agency setting. From a DIY smart pill bottle in collaboration with MIT to an electric vehicle charging station, along with branding and marketing website projects, we took on a huge variety of clients that gave me a wide range of experiences.

Through this variety of assignments, I found my specialty in complex web applications designed for professionals. In contrast to the rapid-fire pace of short-term projects, over time I found myself embedded with two of our clients for nearly a year at a time—one in financial compliance, and the other being Pear Therapeutics.

While embedded at Pear, I worked on the first FDA-approved app for patients, incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in a mobile app, as well as a web application for clinicians tailor-made for in-person therapy. These products are in use and clinically proven.

Newsbound

Product Designer
2012-2014

As Product Designer, I led the creative side of the technology team inside this hybrid tech startup and creative studio. I designed Stacker, a web application used by designers and editors both internally and externally to create content in our proprietary format. To view that content, I designed a best-in-class mobile interface that would also behave on the responsive web, as our content was embedded within hundreds of sites.

Additionally, I contributed to our studio content which appeared on The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC, Upworthy, and The Atlantic for clients including Google, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the ACLU, 350.org, and the Union of Concerned Scientists.

I believe the work we do as designers within our tools of choice is only the rehearsal—the real show happens in code. I’m all about balancing the forces behind the scenes when it comes to shipping software, embracing constraints, asking deep questions, and connecting the big picture to the finer details.

I’m at my best when I’m working on challenging problems that make a meaningful difference in the world. (But maybe not first thing in the morning.)

When I’m not staring at design stuff, I’m nerding out on electronic music, working on my succulent garden, and taking care of my ancient-but-thriving 18.5 year old dog, Ginger.
